Encrypted backups, tested recovery plans, and an NZ-based team that answers the phone when things go wrong. The Backup and disaster recovery service of CyberMark Agency keeps your business running when hardware fails, ransomware hits, or someone accidentally deletes the wrong folder.
Book Your Free Security AssessmentMost backup providers only show up after something has gone wrong. CyberMark is different because backup and disaster recovery isn't a standalone product bolted onto a generic MSP stack; it's built alongside the same Endpoint Detection and Response and Managed Detection and Response services that stop ransomware before it reaches your data.
Enterprise-grade cloud storage with 99.9% uptime, AES-256 encryption, and 30–90 day version retention, the same secure data storage infrastructure trusted by organisations far larger than the average NZ SMB.
A documented recovery plan covering your critical systems, recovery priority order, and clear steps for your team to follow, built during onboarding and reviewed as your business changes, not written once and forgotten.
Independent backup for Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint. Microsoft's built-in retention settings are not a backup, and relying on them alone is one of the most common gaps we find during a free security assessment.
Your backup and disaster recovery plan is built alongside your endpoint protection and monitoring, so prevention and recovery work as one system instead of two vendors that don't talk to each other.
A backup you've never restored from is a guess, not a plan. We run scheduled recovery tests so you know, before an incident, exactly how long a full restore takes.
If you already have internal IT, we work alongside them — handling backup infrastructure, monitoring, and recovery testing while your team keeps ownership of day-to-day operations.
We work with you to define realistic recovery targets that align with your business priorities, helping minimise downtime and data loss when the unexpected happens.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO) — How long your business can realistically be without a system before it causes serious damage. For a retail POS system, that might be measured in hours. For an archived project folder, it might be measured in days.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO) — How much data you can afford to lose, measured in time. An RPO of 24 hours means that in a worst-case scenario, you lose a maximum of a day's work.
We make backup and disaster recovery straightforward with a proven three-step process that keeps your data protected and your business ready to recover.
We map your systems, identify what's currently backed up (and what isn't), and flag any gaps in your existing backup and recovery process. No cost, no obligation.
Encrypted cloud backup is configured for your servers, workstations, and Microsoft 365 data, and a written disaster recovery plan is built around your priority systems and recovery targets.
Restores are tested on a schedule, not assumed. Every month you get a plain-language report on backup health, storage usage, and recovery readiness.

We help New Zealand businesses protect critical data, minimise downtime, and recover quickly when the unexpected happens.
No dedicated in-house IT or backup administrator.
Financial records or personal information covered by the NZ Privacy Act 2020.
Or a single local backup drive, neither is a full disaster recovery plan.
You don't know if recovery actually works until you try.
Would lose more than a day of revenue if systems were down for a week.
Demonstrate a documented, tested disaster recovery plan.
We help New Zealand businesses with 1–50 staff protect critical data, minimise downtime, and recover with confidence through proactive backup and disaster recovery.
Every person on your account operates from New Zealand and understands the Privacy Act 2020, the NCSC threat landscape, and what a real recovery timeline looks like for a business your size.
Every plan is month-to-month. Cancel with 30 days' notice, no exit fees. We keep clients by making backups actually work, not through contract friction.
Backblaze B2 and the same encryption standards used by organisations with thousands of endpoints, without the enterprise price tag or the in-house team needed to run it.
Backup deployment starts within your first week of onboarding, with a full disaster recovery plan documented and tested shortly after.
We test restores on a schedule and tell you the results, so "we think it works" is never the answer during an actual incident.
Backup and disaster recovery plans only prove themselves when they're actually used. Here's how CyberMark's approach has worked for real businesses:

Everything you need to know about backup and disaster recovery
Most disaster recovery plans follow five stages: identifying and assessing the incident, containing the damage to stop it spreading further, recovering systems and data from backup, verifying that recovered systems are clean and functional, and reviewing the incident afterward to close any gaps it exposed. We document all five as part of your written disaster recovery plan, not just the recovery step.
Isolate affected systems first to stop further spread, then restore from a clean, unaffected backup rather than paying a ransom for a decryption key that may not work. This is exactly why immutable, offline-equivalent backups matter: if your only backup is connected to the live network, it can be encrypted right alongside your primary data.
It starts with a free assessment to map your systems and current backup gaps, followed by deployment of encrypted cloud backup and a written recovery plan built around your actual RTO and RPO needs, then ongoing scheduled restore testing and monthly reporting so the plan stays accurate as your business changes.
Backup and disaster recovery planning is one part of Privacy Act 2020 compliance, particularly around data availability and breach response, but it isn't the whole picture. Our compliance reporting service assesses your full obligations under the Act alongside your backup setup.
At minimum, quarterly. A backup that has never been restored from isn't a verified backup, it's an assumption. We test restores on a set schedule and report the results, so you know your recovery time actually holds up before an incident forces you to find out.
Most businesses discover their backup didn't work at the worst possible moment, during an actual incident. A free security assessment takes 15–30 minutes, costs nothing, and tells you exactly where your current backup and disaster recovery plan stands.
